6 Ways Humor Can Diffuse Tension On a Date

I think humor is one of the many cornerstones of dating and successful relationships. Keeping your sense of humor about yourself and the other person can go a long way to keeping your relationship on an even keel.

I accidentally gave the wrong address to a man I was meeting for the first time. I neglected to include the South part of the street name so he went North, quite a ways in the wrong direction before he called to tell me he was going to be late because he couldn't find the restaurant.

My apology was immediate and I said, "Good thing my house payment isn't dependent on my giving accurate directions." This made him laugh and he was grateful that I acknowledged it was completely my fault that he would be late.

We had an additional laugh when he arrived and our lunch got started on a lighter note than it could have if either of us had been upset.

When both individuals share laughter, it creates a sense of connection and mutual understanding. This connection helps in building a bond. It makes the interaction seem more genuine and personal.

The resulting bond can make both people feel more comfortable with each other. Such comfort can make the date more enjoyable. So, don't hesitate to share a laugh and build that connection.

Humor is a great way to show your playful side to your date. Showing this side can make the atmosphere more relaxed. This atmosphere can help both of you feel more at ease.

A relaxed date is likely to be more pleasant for both parties. So, let your playful side shine through humor from time to time.

Adding humor can lighten the mood on a date, creating a relaxed environment. A lighter mood helps in reducing awkward silences and making the date less stressful. When the mood is light, it is easier to enjoy each other's company.

This enjoyment can pave the way for a better connection. Don't miss the chance to lighten the mood with some humor.

Laughter releases endorphins which are known to ease anxiety. When both individuals laugh, it can help ease the nervousness that often accompanies a date. Increased relaxation through laughter can make the date feel more natural and less forced.

A natural flow to the conversation often leads to a better, more genuine connection. Make sure to keep the laughter going to keep those endorphins flowing.

Engaging in witty banter can be a great way to showcase one's intelligence. Intelligence often makes a person more attractive to their date. It can spark interesting conversations and keep the date lively.

Interesting conversations are a great way to connect on a deeper level. So, don't hold back on showing your wit through humor.
